Millwall winger Jed Wallace has highlighted the quality of Bristol City striker Benik Afobe and revealed that he was a cut above everyone at Wolves when he first joined the club.

The duo both joined Wolves in 2015, Afobe from Arsenal in January and Wallace from Portsmouth in July.

The striker hit the ground running after arriving from the Gunners–grabbing 13 goals and five assists in 21 appearances in the 2014/15 campaign.

Afobe has jumped between clubs since, featuring for Bournemouth, Stoke City and now the Robins.

Clearly, he is still someone that Wallace rates very highly as the 25-year-old included him in a best XI of players he has played with.

Via the club's official Twitter account, the Millwall winger said: "Speaking of goalscorers, on the left I'd have to play Benik."

He added: "With Benik, when I first went to Wolves, he was probably the one player that when stepped up from League Two, I really noticed how far ahead of everyone he was at the time.

"His confidence was through the roof at the time and he was scoring all types of goals. He's definitely a player that needs to be in there."

After a disappointing 2018/19 campaign, Afobe joined the Robins on loan at the start of this season and made a fast start–scoring three goals in his first five games.

However, a nasty ligament injury has kept him sidelined since.

The Verdict

City fans will surely love to hear this praise for Afobe from Wallace and it may get them even more excited about the prospect of their loan striker returning to fitness for the run-in.

In that sense, the delay to Championship fixtures could suit the Robins.

Afobe really looked to have found his groove at Ashton Gate, so it will be interesting to see if he can pick up where he left off.

If he can, then Lee Johnson is going to have some mouthwatering forward options to choose from.
