Millwall winger Fred Onyedinma could be on his way out of The Den before Friday’s loan deadline passes.

According to Southwark News sports editor, John Kelly, the Lions winger could depart the London club on a temporary basis in order to get some first-team football.

The 21-year-old has failed to make a single appearance in the league so far this season, featuring only in the EFL Cup win against Gillingham.

Onyedinma had been a first-team regular in the past three seasons which included playing a big part in the Lions’ promotion to the Championship two years ago.

Last term, however, the young winger made 42 appearances for Neil Harris’ men but has had no such like this season so far.

With the arrival of Jiri Skalak and the early season form of Aiden O’Brien and Jed Wallace, along with different substitute options, the winger has found chances to feature limited.

Onyedinma wasn’t even named on the bench in the defeat to Rotherham United on Sunday, igniting debate about his immediate future.

The Verdict

A loan move away could be the best thing for the 21-year-old.

Fred Onyedinma has not kicked-on as much as many would have hoped, and you can imagine Neil Harris has noticed it too.

The winger was given a new contract in the summer but is yet to feature in the league.

Maybe a move away to get regular first-team football and hopefully improve his all-round game, it could be of great benefit for Millwall and the player himself.

With current options, Onyedinma will only really play regularly in cup games, unless injury or suspension rules out one of the current in-favour wingers.

A temporary exit could be precisely what is needed to galvanise the young man's career.
