Millwall and Sheffield United meet this weekend at The Den both in different veins of form ahead of a potential reward of three points.

For Neil Harris’ men, the need is far greater than their opponents.

Having won just once this season, the Lions find themselves in the bottom three of the Championship, having lost five times - and they have all come in their last six matches.

Sheffield United, meanwhile, sit fourth in the table after another impressive start.

The Blades have only lost once in their last seven games and are just two points off of top spot - a position they could climb to this weekend if results go their way.

Let’s take a closer look at the match-up…

There will be a contrast in styles with Millwall being the more direct of the two sides, but with that not having the same effect as it did last season, Harris could change things up and go to a more expansive system to alter the style of play.

Chris Wilder adopts a 3-5-2 system and floods the midfield, that is where the majority of the Blades joy comes from and is the perfect formation to set up away from home, too.

Both sides average just over 11 shots per game, with the Blades just edging that parameter.

Millwall have more success in aerial duels, as you would expect, and are slightly more aggressive than their opponents this weekend, averaging one more tackle per game.

Despite the negative form, the Lions have won their last three home games against United.

But if they are to make it a quartet of home wins against Wilder’s men, they will need to be at their best.

In their last six outings, there has been six 15 goals between the sides with Millwall coming out on top four times to Sheffield United’s one, with one draw between the teams.

You need to go back to 2010 for the last time a Blades side won at The Den.

Three points, though, is what is needed for both Wilder and Harris, in particular, for different reasons.

And he would have pinpointed areas of weakness within the United team, hoping he can get his side back to winning ways this weekend.

The Blades, meanwhile, will be aiming to press ahead with their continued form, hoping to end the weekend at the summit of the Championship.
