Championship-bound Millwall are upping the ante in the chase for Reading defender Jake Cooper, according to Getreading.
The 22-year-old centre-back spent the second half of last season on loan at the Den, appearing 18 times in all competitions for Neil Harris’ men to help them to promotion via the League One play-offs, and indeed to the quarter-final of the FA Cup, where they were trounced 6-0 by Tottenham.
And the young defender earned many rave reviews for his efforts for the Lions, and with Jaap Stam’s Reading boasting some serious depth in the central defensive department, Cooper is more likely to get regular football at Millwall than he is at the Madejski Stadium.
Millwall will be returning to the Championship next season after beating Bradford City 1-0 in the play-off final at Wembley, and chief Harris will be thinking about how he can bolster his ranks to maintain their Championship status beyond the 2017/18 campaign.
And given how well Cooper played for the club last term, and indeed the amount of experience he gained at Reading at Championship level over the last few seasons (playing 42 times in the second tier), the 22-year-old could be an ideal signing for Harris this summer, and thus one he seeks to complete in the coming weeks and months.
