Millwall will open talks with Tim Cahill over his footballing future following the World Cup.

According to the Mirror’s live transfer blog (10/06, 19:37), the Sky Bet Championship outfit are planning talks with Cahill when his World Cup campaign with Australia comes to an end.

Cahill spent the second-half of last season on-loan with Millwall in the Championship, with the Australian forward enjoying an emotional return to the club that gave him a chance in English football.

The 38-year-old made 10 appearances on his return to The Den, all of which came as a substitute a Harris’ side went in search of play-off football after an incredible run of form during the second-half of the season.

Despite Millwall’s impressive form, Cahill struggled for a major impact on the field, failing to score a goal.

However, Harris still plans talks with the Australian following his World Cup duty, with the possibility still there that he could return to Millwall next season.

Harris said: “Tim will have a decision to make once the World Cup has finished. We’ll have a conversation about his footballing future.”

Cahill will take part in his fourth World Cup campaign, with the competition in Russia set to begin later on this week.

The Verdict

Cahill might not have had an impact on the field last season, but he clearly had an impact in the dressing room, with Millwall’s fortunes improving following his arrival.

The 38-year-old is clearly highly thought of at Millwall, which will always leave the door open for his return.

If Harris thinks Cahill can have in impact on his squad next season, it would be no surprise to see him returning again next season.
