Millwall manager Neil Harris has confirmed that Jiri Skalak will miss the club's clash with Middlesbrough on Saturday after being forced off with suspected ligament damage in yesterday's 4-0 defeat to Fulham.

The 27-year-old was drafted in as a replacement for Jed Wallace who was unavailable for the trip to Craven Cottage after being sent-off in last weekend's 1-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday.

Starting on the left-hand side of midfield, Skalak was unable to make any sort of impression for Millwall as Fulham dominated the game from the very outset.

With his side already 2-0 down to the Cottagers, the Czech Republic international was substituted in the 39th minute due to injury with Shane Ferguson coming on for the Lions.

Since joining Millwall from Brighton & Hove Albion last year, Skalak has drifted in and out of Harris' starting eleven, making just 21 appearances in all competitions.

Speaking to London News Online about the nature of the winger's injury, Harris said: "Jiri's in a boot now.

"It's not going to be great news.

"He's had the shot in the first half and has been caught with a tackle, and it looks like ligament damage.

"We'll see how he goes, but he won't be involved in Saturday."

The Verdict

Having recently impressed in the Lions' 1-0 victory over West Bromwich Albion in the Carabao Cup, the winger would have been hoping to finally establish himself as a regular for the club over the coming months.

However, following this injury setback, Skalak will now be forced to agonisingly watch on from the sidelines at The Den.

With Wallace set to miss the next two matches for Millwall, the news that Skalak will also not be available leaves Harris with a conundrum heading into Saturday's clash.

Whereas Ferguson can operate as a left-midfielder, the Lions boss may instead give Aidan O'Brien the opportunity to prove himself out wide having started the season in a central role.
