Millwall midfielder Ben Thompson has revealed how he has settled into parenthood so far as his partner gave birth last week to a baby boy.

The pair chose to name their baby boy Mason, just hours before Thompson had to dash off to Swansea City, where he started in the 1-0 win over the high-flyers as Gary Rowett's side continue to flourish under his stewardship.

On fatherhood, Thompson said: "Of course it gives you a different perspective – it’s all part of growing up, having a little kid to look after now. It’s a great feeling.

"I’ve been speaking to the lads a lot about it over the past nine months, getting little words of advice and tips here and there. They’ve all been there for me, and they all texted me on Friday."

The Lions were able to dig out a win at The Liberty Stadium as they managed to block everything that Swansea threw at them throughout the game, managing to frustrate the Swans, and Jed Wallace then stepped up to curl in a stunning free-kick to take all the three points for their first away win of the season.

Normally deployed as an attacking midfielder and playing just behind the striker this season, the 24-year-old has featured in 17 Championship games for the Lions this season, as well as playing a big part during the second half of last season after being recalled to The Den following his loan move to Portsmouth during the first half of the season.

The Verdict

Thompson making a quick dash to The Liberty Stadium on Saturday just so he could start in the game shows commitment and how much he values playing his football.

The attacking midfielder showed no signs of tiredness as he played his part during a memorable victory for the Lions, and was able to celebrate as they got their first away win of the season in excellent circumstances by beating a side that was higher than them in the table.
