Millwall are in the bottom three ahead of this weekend’s round of games knowing that even just a point could see them move above the trap door heading into the Boxing Day fixture.

It is a busy time of year and one that could go a long way in determining how the second half of the Lions’ campaign is going to unfold.

Neil Harris’ side have yet to win on the road and will be hoping they can finally get three points away from The Den at the 12th time of asking.

Their away form is one of the reasons why they find themselves in a relegation scrap so early in the season, as well as a plethora of individual and collective errors.

Jed Wallace is a player who has stepped up his game in recent weeks after signing a new long-term deal with the club, and he feels that the club have what it takes to get out of trouble at the bottom of the league.

In an interview with NewsAtDen, the flying winger expressed his thoughts on the Lions’ current plight and explained they have the players that can change their current predicament - and what needs to be done to avoid the dreaded drop.

“We’ve got the players that can change it. We just need that little bit of luck," Wallace said.

“Preston’s goal last week, worst free-kick you’ll see, hits Tunnicliffe on the shin and bounces down the middle of the goal.

“We just need a little break, a bit of luck, get that win and we’ll be on our way.”

“We’re not relegated yet. People are acting like we’re relegated, but we’re not. We’ve got a long way to go.

“It was only six months ago we went 17 games unbeaten and won six in a row away from home. That’s how quickly football can change, even at this level.

“We need to be ruthless; we need to be on it. It’s the same message as everyone else, and the fans are probably thinking, ‘well everybody’s saying that’.

“It’s down to the players to concentrate for 90, 95 minutes, whatever it takes to get ourselves over the line.

“We’ve played far too well to be in the position we’re in this year.”

The verdict

What with bad luck and a whole host of individual errors, Jed Wallace right to a degree.

Millwall do have the players to be higher up the league – they showed that last season – but this year is full of different challenges, and they need to rise to the occasion.

The Lions’ supporters must be sick of the same words coming out of the club right, left and centre, but it is true – they just need a little bit of luck.

And with that, they need to be switched on and fully focused for the entirety of the match – not for pockets of it.

In doing that, the luck could well come, and the players that Wallace thinks can get Millwall out of their current position, might do just that.
