Millwall have completed the signing of winger Connor Mahoney from Premier League side Bournemouth.

Mahoney has joined the Lions for a "seven-figure sum", according to London News Online.

The 22-year-old has signed the South London side on a long-term contract after two years with the Cherries.

The England under-20 international impressed on loan at Birmingham City last season, scoring twice and generating four assists in 32 appearances for the Blues–and winning their Young Player of the Year award in the process.

The Englishman has failed to break through at the Vitality Stadium, making just two first-team appearances for Bournemouth since he joined the club.

A versatile player who is comfortable on either flank, Mahoney is Neil Harris' fourth signing of the season, after the arrivals of Alex Pearce, Frank Fielding, and Matt Smith.

The 41-year-old will be looking to make some improvements to his squad after the Lions narrowly avoided relegation last season, finishing just one place and four points above the drop zone.

Verdict

This looks like an excellent addition for Millwall and it should fit their system.

Mahoney is a great crosser of the ball, averaging 1.6 crosses per game last season–the 13th highest of any player in the Championship last season, according to WhoScored.

Harris' side needed to add attacking reinforcements in this transfer window. They were the third-lowest scorers in the league last season and lost their top scorer Lee Gregory this summer.

The arrival of Mahoney is great news for new signing Matt Smith. The six-foot-six striker will relish having a wide player with a delivery like Mahoney.

It seems like a good move from the 22-year-old's perspective. It looked very unlikely he would break through at Bournemouth and at Millwall he should have plenty of opportunities for first-team football.
