Millwall have completed the signing of Leeds United midfielder Jamie Shackleton on loan.

Gary Rowett is looking to build a squad at Millwall capable of pushing on into the Championship’s top-six in 2022/23, after a really positive previous campaign.

Charlie Cresswell has already arrived on loan from Leeds in one impressive piece of business, with Shackleton following his Elland Road teammate to London.

Leeds have confirmed this afternoon that Shackleton has joined Millwall on loan for the season.

Quiz: The big Millwall summer quiz – Can you score 30/30 without using Google?

Shackleton has made 79 appearances for Leeds since his debut in 2018, playing his part in helping the club win promotion to the Premier League and then establish themselves back in the top-flight.

However, 51 of those appearances have come from the bench, with the 22-year-old used as a more of a utility man than a starter.

Having progressed at Thorp Arch, Shackleton came through as a midfielder, yet his versatility has led to him playing at right-back on occasions, including a period last season where he covered for Luke Ayling.

The Verdict

This is another very good signing for Millwall, who are having a really strong summer transfer window.

Shackleton leaves Leeds with a point to prove and has that desperation for regular football away from Elland Road.

He’s been part of a good squad at Elland Road and competed within it, underlining his quality.

The task for him at Millwall will be showcasing that on a week-by-week basis as a starter somewhere in Rowett’s side.
