Millwall round-up: Major deal secured, player departure and outstanding generosity

on

Millwall’s positive start to the season came to a crashing halt with three defeats in a week, culminating in a reverse to ten-man Swansea City after leading late on at The Den.

It has been a week to forget for Lions fans with negative results on the pitch and now two weeks to stew over the Swans loss before a clash with rivals Leeds United next week.

In this next round-up, we take a quick spin through all things Millwall from the past week.

Millwall’s transfer record had stood for neigh-on 30 years having signed Paul Goddard from Derby for £800,000 before that was broken when Tom Bradshaw arrived from Barnsley.

But you wait all that time for one, and two come along at once.

The Lions broke their transfer record for the second time in a week when Ryan Leonard arrived from Sheffield United for a fee higher than that paid for Bradshaw.

Millwall’s new signing was in the car on the way down when, due to time constraints, the car had to be abandoned and instead the tube was used to make it to The Den on time to get the deal completed.

With one arriving, one left with another club record broken, this time, for the amount of money received for a player.

George Saville left for Middlesbrough on deadline day after one year with the London side.

The fee was reported to be in the region of £8million when the loan is made permanent in January.

And finally, Millwall fans usually get a bad reputation, and as their saying goes ‘no one likes us, we don’t care.’

On this occasion, the club has managed to do something extremely positive.

The club and the supporters club managed to raise £9,500 for the London Ambulance Service in response to emergency response vehicles being damaged during the celebrations after England’s World Cup win over Sweden this past summer.

A JustGiving page was launched to pay for the repairs of the vehicles, and the final total is in raising double what was initially intended.
