Millwall are said to be readying a bid for QPR striker, Matt Smith according to a report from London News Online.

The experienced forward hasn’t featured as much as he would have liked to for the Hoops in recent months and could be heading for the Loftus Road exit door in the near future.

Smith made seven league starts in total last season, as QPR finished 19th in the Championship.

He was behind the likes of Tomer Hemed and Nahki Wells in the pecking order, which saw his game time limited to just a handful of appearances.

Millwall’s interest in signing a striker won’t come as a surprise, as Neil Harris’ side need to find a replacement for Lee Gregory, who left the club after his contract with the Lions expired.

With the Lions being thin on options in attack, Harris will be keen to add some much-needed depth in attacking areas of his squad.

He evidently sees Smith as a player that could add something to his squad, although an official bid is yet to be launched.

It’s surely not going to be the last we hear of a rumour linking Smith with a summer departure from QPR, as he looks to find himself regular game time ahead of next season.

The Verdict:

This could be a really good signing for Millwall if they pull it off.

Smith fits their style of play and has already shown that he can perform to a high standard in the Championship, with both QPR and Fulham in the past.

His aerial ability is impressive, and I think he’d be the perfect Lee Gregory replacement for Millwall.
