Millwall have bid for an unnamed Premier League player as they look to move on from a rejected bid for Portsmouth winger Jamal Lowe, South London Press have reported.

It was previously reported by Portsmouth News that Millwall and Wigan Athletic had taken an interest in Lowe, who scored 17 goals and provided nine assists in 55 appearances in all competitions for Portsmouth last season, as Kenny Jackett's side reached the League One play-off semi finals.

According to reports, the Championship duo have both seen bids for the winger rejected, with Millwall now said to have moved onto other targets.

It is thought that The Lions have instead chosen to bid for a Premier League player, although the player's identity and current club have not been revealed.

The London based side, who finished one place and four points clear of the relegation zone last season, will need to strengthen their attacking options in the summer, with the likes of Lee Gregory and Steve Morison expected to leave The Den in the coming weeks.

The verdict

This is an interesting one for Millwall.

There will be some disappointment around the club at missing out on Lowe, but there should be encouragement around their response to that setback.

It shows that the club have plenty of options to explore in the summer transfer window, and the fact that they are moving for a player from a top tier side suggests that there is plenty of ambition around the club despite a difficult season last year, and it will be intriguing to see both the identity of the target and success of Millwall's pursuit as a further indicator of their potential further down the line.
