Sky Bet Championship side Millwall are weighing up a £500,000 bid to sign Huddersfield Town playmaker Jack Payne, according to reports from The Sun.

The 24-year-old has been influential out on loan at League One side Bradford City this season, where the attacking midfielder has scored eight goals and produced four assists for the Bantams, who have lifted themselves out of the relegation zone in recent weeks.

But the London-born playmaker has recently caught the eye of Millwall boss Neil Harris, who has been searching in the lower leagues from some fresh, new talent that will help steer the Lions away from the Championship drop-zone.

Payne hasn't featured for Huddersfield since their Championship play-off semi-final victory over Sheffield Wednesday back in May 2017, and with his contract expiring with the Terriers at the end of this season, David Wagner's men could look to terminate his loan deal at Valley Parade, in order to sell him before letting him leave for potentially nothing in the summer.

Harris' men, after three successive league victories, are now six points clear of the relegation zone in the Championship.

The Verdict

This could be a fantastic piece of business from Neil Harris and Millwall.

Payne has been integral in Bradford's resurgent run of form, and his goals have carried them away from the drop zone.

It would be a massive blow if they were to lose their star-man, but what a signing he'd be for Millwall. He's fast, he can dribble, he has a trick in his locker and, most importantly, he can score goals.
