Millwall’s Jed Wallace has today revealed that former boss Neil Harris sent the team a congratulatory message after their 2-1 win against Leeds United on Saturday.

“He texted everyone individually and said, ‘Well done today, lads, proud of the performance, brilliant result for you’,” revealed Millwall midfielder Jed Wallace today, “It sums the man up, he is a class act.”

Adam Barrett pulled off a miracle on Saturday, guiding Millwall to a 2-1 victory over Championship contenders Leeds at The Den.

The Lions’ caretaker manager Barrett is in charge (as it stands) for their next game at Brentford in two-weeks time, but has been linked with the vacant Southend United job.

Speaking after the game on Saturday, he said:

“I wanted to put on a performance for Neil and David (Livermore), and so did the lads. They have been instrumental to this club and really turned it around.”

Harris stepped down from the Millwall managers job last week with the club 18th-place in the Championship.

He spent ten years at The Den as player in two separate spells, scoring 125 goals for the Lions. He was appointed first-team manager in 2015 and guided them to League One play-off success in 2017.

The verdict

Harris was hailed at Millwall and will forever be remembered by fans.

His departure was saddening and came as shock to many of the players and fans. But Barrett has kept his team focused on the task at hand and Saturday's monumental win against Leeds see them distance themselves from the drop.
