Millwall midfielder Jayson Molumby has spoken out over Gary Rowett's recent decision to tweak his position for the Lions.

During Tuesday night's impressive 2-1 win against Bristol City at Ashton Gate, the Brighton loanee was deployed in a deeper defensive position alongside Shaun Williams, something Rowett is clearly keen to make work.

And Molumby admitted that he is really enjoying the role.

“It’s been really good playing in that central two with Willo," he told the club's official website.

"You’ve seen in the first half especially how we controlled play a lot better, and we’re learning that system away from home.

“We’ve picked up two wins and one draw from our last three away games, so it’s going well and we have to be happy with that."

QUIZ: Millwall through the decade: How much do you remember about the 2012/13 season?

Millwall took the lead in the 13th minute when some impressive play from Shaun Hutchinson and Mahlon Romeo eventually led to the ball falling to the feet of Jed Wallace, who made no mistake with the finish.

City continued to dominate possession but could not break down their stubborn opponents and with 20 minutes left it was 2-0, Jake Cooper heading home Wallace's free-kick.

It was a win that moved them up into 12th place with 21 games played and Molumby and co. will no doubt be keen to see where this impressive run can take them from now on.

The verdict

This yet another glowing endorsement of Rowett's tenure as Millwall boss so far.

He clearly identified a problem of the club's was in that holding midfielder and has worked brilliantly to convert Molumby into someone who can operate well in that are, with the experience of Williams alongside to help.

It is now a case of seeing just how much these players can improve in the second half of the campaign and then seeing how high that can take Millwall.
