Ryan Leonard believes Queens Park Rangers' search for a new manager could work against Millwall ahead of tomorrow night's must-win Championship clash at The Den.

The Lions are currently 20th in the Championship table after Saturday's 2-0 win over West Brom, just one point above the relegation zone and only four behind 18th-placed QPR.

The R's are currently looking for a new manager following the departure of Steve McClaren last week, who was sacked after less than a year in charge of the club following a poor run of just one win from 15 league games.

The Telegraph reported yesterday that Tim Sherwood is the favourite to succeed McClaren at Loftus Road, with Michael Appleton also thought to be high on Rangers' list of candidates.

Millwall achieved a victory against a side without a permanent manager when they beat West Brom at the weekend, however, Leonard believes that McClaren's sacking could work against his side ahead of the clash at The Den.

“I think sometimes it can be even tougher facing a side that doesn’t have a manager," Leonard told the club's official website.

“Players might have more to prove than they did before, knowing they have to perform with a new manager about to come in," added the midfielder.

“It will be a great atmosphere and a great game, and it’s quite obvious in the League table that we both really need the points.”

McClaren's former assistant John Eustace took caretaker charge of the team for the 4-0 defeat at leaders Norwich City at the weekend and is expected to remain in charge for the game tomorrow night.

The Verdict

Leonard could be right. It's been an awful few months for QPR and the players will feel they have a point to prove after McClaren's sacking.

It is a must-win game for both teams tomorrow night, with both sides fighting to avoid relegation to League One.
