Millwall are among a host of clubs, including both Southampton and AFC Bournemouth, interesting in signing emerging young defender Alfie Kilgour from Bristol Rovers, according to BristolLive.

The defender, currently enjoying a highly successful first full campaign in the Football League in which he has scored three goals in 43 appearances for the Pirates, has been one of the breakthrough players in League One this term and is perhaps unsurprisingly attracting interest from club's at a higher level, including the Lions and their London rivals Queens Park Rangers.

Kilgour's preferred position is centre-back - where he's often partnered former Millwall man Tony Craig this season - but the 21-year-old has also featured elsewhere for Rovers this season, including in both a back three and back four.

According to the report, Kilgour's current contract expires in the summer of 2021, and Rovers would not stop the defender from leaving the Memorial Stadium and progressing his career as long as the price is right.

The Verdict

If this report is true, it would come as no surprise to see Gary Rowett planning ahead.

Despite and excellent first campaign in SE16, if Millwall want to challenge at the right at of the Championship table next season then they need to add to what is already an extremely thin squad.

Rowett likes to have a mixture of youth and experience, so if the Lions could beat off competition from the likes of Southampton and Bournemouth, then this could turn out to be an excellent piece of business.
