Millwall have made a transfer approach for Motherwell midfielder Allan Campbell, according to Sky Sports' Transfer Centre (07/01, 09:45).

Gary Rowett is keen to strengthen his midfield options this month, having recently missed out on the signing of former loan star Jayson Molumby.

The Lions reportedly submitted a club-record bid for the midfielder, but he has joined Preston North End on loan until the end of the season.

But according to Sky Sports, Motherwell's Allan Campbell has emerged as a target for Millwall, with an approach being made for his services.

The 22-year-old's contract at Fir Park expires at the end of the season, meaning that he can talk to other clubs this month to discuss potential pre-contract agreements.

The midfielder has been a key player for Motherwell this season, making 21 appearances across all competitions and scoring two goals.

Campbell is primarily a defensive midfielder but can also play further forward, meaning that he could fit right into Rowett's plans at the Den.

The Verdict

It was obviously a blow to lose out on Molumby, but Campbell looks to be a good player who could turn out to be a real gem.

He's only 22 but has racked up a lot of appearances for Motherwell, and he has been a hugely important player for them this season.

His contract situation means that someone could get him for a bargain at the end of the season, but Millwall will surely want him to come in now and hit the ground running.
