Millwall have recently been linked with a move for Reading forward, Jon Dadi Bodvarsson, with The Sun claiming that a fee in the region of £750,000 has been agreed between the two clubs.

Bodvarsson struggled with injuries in the second-half of last season, and was limited to just seven league starts for the Royals.

But he also made 13 substitute appearances in the Championship, and scored seven league goals in total, which is a strong record for a Reading team that retained their status in the league with a game to spare earlier this year.

With Bodvarsson not featuring for the Royals since February, it makes you wonder whether they would have edged clear of the bottom three earlier in the season if the Icelandic international was fit for the second half of last term.

Millwall could be the ideal destination for the forward as well, as Neil Harris' side could certainly benefit from having a additional depth in attacking areas.

The Lions lost Lee Gregory to Stoke, and also loaned out Steve Morison to Shrewsbury earlier in the transfer window, so it's clear to see that they need another striker.

They have already signed Matt Smith from QPR, and if they were to sign Bodvarsson, then they could have a strong partnership up-front.

Bodvarsson isn't known for his aerial ability, but Millwall could rely on Smith to provide that, and Bodvarsson's work ethic could come in handy if he partnered Smith in attack.

It's a signing that supporters won't be thrilled with, but he's got a point to prove in the Championship, and Neil Harris will be hoping that Bodvarsson can hit the ground running with Millwall if he is to sign for them.

His best season in front of goal at this level was with Reading in the 2017/2018 season where he scored ten goals.

But he's struggled for consistency in his performances, which raised questions amongst Reading supporters as to whether there were better options available than the 27-year-old.

Millwall could be the perfect place for the Icelander to reignite his career though, as he'd be more assured of regular game time, which could be what he needs to find his best form.

Bodvarsson has a point to prove in the Championship, and he'll be keen to show Jose Gomes what he would be missing out on if he was to leave the Berkshire-based club.

It's certainly an interesting transfer stance from Reading to sell one of their main attacking outlets to a relegation rival, and it could come back to haunt the Royals.
