Four points, that is all that separates Millwall and an unlikely spot in the Championship play-off race.

They have enjoyed a solid season back in the second tier, ensuring they've been sat just on the fringes of the top ten for most of the campaign.

There's been little fear of the drop and now a run of twelve league games without defeat has seen them threaten to gate crash the end of season party.

They’ve hit form just at the right time and have given themselves an outside chance of promotion. Their last four games are Sheffield United, Fulham, Middlesbrough and Aston Villa, meaning they could end up with their fate in their own hands. Not bad for a season's work.

Even a finish on the edge of the promotion race will be regarded as just reward for Neil Harris and the team.

The Championship is a tough competition to be in, the financial chasms between teams can leave the 'haves' at the top and the 'have nots' languishing a long way behind. That hasn't been the case for them this season, even with a lower budget and they’ll be planning how to do the same next year.

There's plenty of young talent in South London, not least in their youth set up. Perhaps one way to get the jump on your rivals is promote some exciting young talent into the first team. Here are three emerging starlets Millwall fans should be getting excited about.

James Brown should be feeling good right now, he is out on loan at Carlisle and has helped push his current side up the League Two table.

Brown is just 20-years old and plays as a centre half. He has 30 outings to his name this year and, although he hasn't played since February 13th, he's got a growing reputation back with his parent club.

Men's football is a different world to the youth team and the experience out on loan will have done the youngster the world of good. when he returns to the New Den he's expected to be more competitive and ready to challenge for a first team spot. Of course, if Millwall do sneak into the top flight, it might mean Brown isn't as likely to end up in the squad.

20-year old Leighton is a regular for the Under 23 side and is generating lots of excitement around Millwall at the moment.

He hasn’t got any first team experience as yet, but he is part of the first team playing staff having signed a pro deal last summer. He's a regular for the U23 side and has been reported as a menace around the eighteen yard box.

Who doesn't love a good home-grown forward? Noel Leighton's time is surely coming and when it does, Millwall fans could well be incredibly surprised.

Lewis White is another promising talent just waiting for his chance to show the New Den faithful exactly what he is capable of.

He is a regular starter for Millwall's U23s and signed his first professional deal with the club in July 2017 at the same time as Noel Leighton.

He has blistering pace and composed skill on the ball, as well as the ability to go around defenders as if they are not there. He is surely on the cusp of breaking through and when he does he could delight Lions fans.
