Portsmouth manager Kenny Jackett is interested in signing Peterborough United striker Matt Godden in the summer, according to Sky Sports, via the Sun newspaper.

Godden was in fine form the Posh last season as he knocked in an impressive 14 goals, and that form has caught the eye of Pompey manager Jackett, who is keen on adding new faces to his squad this summer.

The 27-year-old striker has been something of a journeyman in his career, but found his feet last year with Peterborough as he fired in the goals what almost resulted in the club making a jump into the top six in League One.

Godden's big break came a few seasons back in League Two with Stevenage, where he scored 20 goals in each of the two seasons with the club, before Peterborough made their move for the striker and gave him his chance in League One.

Natural progression suggests another summer move could be on the cards, but with Pompey and the Posh likely to be competing on the same front next season, it would no doubt take a substantial offer for the striker to be allowed to leave Ferguson's team.

The Verdict

Godden would be a steady if not amazing signing for Portsmouth, but then again he could well prove me wrong and be superb.

He's proven he can score the goals at this level and could well turn into a shrewd addition for Jackett and Pompey.
