Millwall will not pursue their initial interest in Brentford’s Alan McCormack, after they were promoted to the Sky Bet Championship over the weekend, reports Get West London.

Neil Harris’ side secured a Championship return after two-years outside the second-tier, avenging last season’s play-off final defeat by beating Bradford City 1-0 at Wembley on Saturday afternoon.

The Lions had shown an interest in taking McCormack, who is set to leave Brentford this summer, to The Den, but will now reportedly pursue other targets in the coming months.

McCormack, 33, is looking to continue his playing career, despite starting his coaching badges, as he begins to plan for life after his retirement.

The midfielder has a wealth of experience in the Football League, and played a key role in Brentford’s promotion to the Championship during the 2013/14 season, making 45 appearances across the campaign.

Since then, McCormack has found opportunities limited at Griffin Park, but has still played a role in establishing the Bees in the second-tier.

Injuries hampered McCormack’s 2016/17 campaign, limiting the midfielder to just 12 appearances across all competitions.
