Millwall centre-back Shaun Hutchinson has been discussing the pressures surrounding the club as they push for a surprise place in the play-offs.

There are just ten games left of the Championship season now and every match is vital but Hutchinson has made it clear that players are well aware of what is at stake and are feeling the pressure to perform.

“We know we can’t afford to really mess up if we want to make something of the season,” he said in an interview with London News Online.

“We need to win games and be going for it more.

“You can see that sometimes in our performance. Looking back at the Wigan game, although we didn’t play great, we were desperate to go and win it. It doesn’t suit the Millwall way – everyone going for it and being a bit desperate.

“We were always kind of playing catch up because we had a bit of an on-off start to the season."

QUIZ: Can you name these 15 ex-Millwall central midfielders?

Hutchinson made the move to Millwall in 2016 from Fulham and has become a firm fan favourite in the years since, making over 120 appearances and scoring 10 goals - five of which have come in the current season.

The Lions will be looking to give their play-off hopes another boost on Saturday as they look to upset the odds and creep into the top-six.

Nottingham Forest will not be willing to let them have anything easy, however, as Sabri Lamouchi's men continue to push for a spot in the Premier League.

Gary Rowett's men currently sit in 12th place but a win on Saturday could take them to within five points of the play-off places.

The verdict

This is certainly an interesting insight into what players are thinking at such a high-pressured time of the season.

It is also fascinating to hear that Millwall are going for the play-offs with serious intent. I would expect nothing less, I suppose, but considering avoiding relegation will have been the aim at the start of the season they would have been forgiven for taking their foot of the gas.

But perhaps Rowett is trying to change their perspective ahead of next season, ensuring that expectations for everyone connected to the club are higher than they have been this year.
