Millwall defender Mahlon Romeo has revealed the impact that his move to the South London club has had on his career and his mentality.

He revealed in an interview with London News Online that he had fallen out of love with the game until he was brought to the Den by Neil Harris, saying that the now ex-Millwall boss had a big impact in re-energising him.

“Being at Gillingham made me fall out of love with football,” he said.

“Coming here into a much more professional environment definitely made me enjoy things more.

"Chopper was a big part of that. He was the one who gave me the opportunity, who worked with me on parts of my game and helped me learn."

Can you name Millwall’s club player of the season from the last 15 years?

Romeo made the move to Millwall from the Gills in the summer of 2015 following a successful trial spell with the club, and has gone on to become an integral part of things.

In total he has made 152 appearances for the club, notching three goals and five assists in that time, and has played in 15 of the club's 16 league games so far this season.

This weekend sees Gary Rowett's side travel to high-flying Swansea for what is sure to be another tough test of their second-tier credentials, knowing that a win could see them rise as high as ninth in the table.

The verdict

It is always great to hear stories of players having their love for the game reinforced and that is clearly what has happened for Romeo at The Den.

Harris was clearly an excellent man manager and Rowett seems to have that similar streek in him as well so I do not think Romeo will have anything to worry about under the new boss.

You suspect that he will be looking to add a few more attacking returns to his game, however, but that will no doubt come throughout the remainder of the season.
