Millwall have officially confirmed the signing of Wycombe Wanderers right-back Jason McCarthy as Neil Harris continues his prep for the rapidly approaching season.
The defender moves to the Den for an undisclosed fee and on a 'long-term' contract after impressing with the Chairboys during their return to League One last season.
He made 44 third-tier appearances for Gareth Ainsworth, scoring twice and assisting two more, as Wycombe ensured they survived a tense relegation battle - picking up the supporter's player of the season award in the process.
The 23-year-old graduated through the Southampton academy before spending time on loan with both Wycombe and Walsall, eventually securing a move to Barnsley.
He becomes Harris's seventh signing of the summer as the Lions look to pull away from the foot of the table following last season's relegation scrap.
The verdict
This looks like a pretty shrewd signing from Millwall.
Right-back was certainly an area that they needed to strengthen this summer so bringing in a promising League One performer who has shown great pedigree both in defence and attack makes perfect sense.
I do think it will be another season battling relegation for the club and I still think there is more that needs to be done at the Den, but this is certainly another step in the right direction.
