Millwall have confirmed that they have signed Benik Afobe for an undisclosed fee from Stoke City, with the striker signing a one-year contract with the club.

The forward has an affilation with Millwall and resumed that last season, with him joining on a loan basis from the Potters for the season.

He evidently did enough for the club to want to keep him around, too, and the decision has now been made to keep him at the New Den for at least the 22/23 season, with him signing a one-year contract on a permanent basis.

The short-term nature of the deal is an interesting one, and Afobe will be looking to use this season to improve his chances of getting another contract next summer with the club.

That's all in the future, though, and for now Afobe will be focusing on pre-season.

The Verdict

This is a signing that makes sense.

Afobe is a good player and one that seems at home at Millwall, so it's a working relationship that might as well be kept going for at least another year.

Millwall will want to add further attacking players to their ranks this summer but keeping Afobe about is a good start and he'll want to repay the faith the club continues to show in him.
