Millwall have confirmed that midfielder Ben Thompson has signed a long-term deal to stay at the club after an impressive end to last season.

The local lad had been an important player over the years for the Lions and played regularly as they won promotion from League One in 2017.

However, he found himself out of favour 12 months ago and went back down to the third-tier for a loan spell with Portsmouth. That proved to be very successful, with Thompson playing extremely well as they pushed for promotion.

His form saw him recalled to The Den in January and he went on to play a crucial part as the Londoners stayed up, with his two goals in the 2-0 win at Birmingham a very vital contribution.

That has convinced Neil Harris that Thompson is in his plans moving forward and the club confirmed on their official site this afternoon that a 'long-term' contract has been signed.

It means the boyhood fan will be extending his time with the club, with the 23-year-old having been at Millwall for the past seven years.

The Verdict

This is great news for Thompson who clearly loves playing for Millwall, so this will be a proud day for him and his family.

And, you have to say that it's totally deserved as he has really benefited from his loan spell with Pompey and will be seen as an important player in the squad next season.

Now that his future is resolved, Thompson can concentrate on his football and he will look to make a big impression next season in what could be a new-look Millwall side.
