Millwall have completed the signing of Derby County forward Mason Bennett on a loan deal running until the end of the season, the Lions have confirmed.

Bennett becomes Gary Rowett's third signing of the transfer window following the loan arrival of Ryan Woods in addition to Bartosz Bilakowski's permanent move, and the Derby striker will now give the Lions another option in attack.

The 23-year-old has struggled to establish himself in the Rams side under Phillip Cocu this campaign with Bennett having made just nine appearances under the new boss, while he has not featured in any of the club's last 12 league matches.

The Derby academy product will now add an extra dimension to Millwall's attacking unit during the remainder of the campaign, with Bennett set to provide strong competition for the likes of Matt Smith, Tom Bradshaw and Aiden O'Brien.

Millwall have experienced a dramatic upturn in form since Rowett's arrival at the club back in October, and the Lions will have have their sights set on a play-off push this season as they currently sit ninth in the Championship table.

The Verdict

This looks like a good move for all parties given Bennett has not been getting much playing time under Cocu at Derby, and this temporary switch means he can gain some valuable minutes while making a contribution to Millwall's play-off bid.

It may not be the most exciting signing for Millwall fans given Bennett could not get a game at a lower-placed side in Derby, but Lions fans should definitely trust Rowett seeing as he has worked with the striker previously at Derby.

Bennett has the potential to be a real asset to the Lions with his physical strength and technical ability, and it will be interesting to see whether Rowett views the 23-year-old as a potential regular starter in his side or not.

I think a fresh start could be exactly what Bennett needs in order to get his career back on track, and Millwall should be the perfect club for him given they are riding a positive wave following Rowett's arrival at The Den.
