Millwall are closing in on securing a move for Arsenal defender Dan Ballard with the Lions thought to in advanced talks with the Gunners over a season-long loan move, according to Football Insider.
It has been reported by London News Online that Ballard has been a player that the Lions have been interested in signing this summer. That comes with Millwall wanting to add a defender to their squad during the transfer window because they see George Evans as playing more of a midfield role for them in the Championship.
Ballard enjoyed an excellent loan spell with Blackpool in League One last season and he played an instrumental role in helping them secure promotion to the Championship via the play-offs.
In total, the 21-year-old managed to make 28 appearances and scored two goals as he helped Neil Critchley’s side record 14 clean sheets.
Quiz: What was the score the last time Millwall played each of these 25 teams?
According to the latest update from Football Insider, Millwall are now in advanced talks to secure his signature and sign him on a season-long loan deal from Arsenal. That comes with the Gunners keen for him to go and get more first-team experience next season.
This is excellent news for Millwall with Ballard a player that Gary Rowett has clearly been feeling could add a lot of quality to his options at the heart of the Lions’ defence. The 21-year-old seems to be ready to make the step-up to Championship football after delivering a string of impressive performances for Blackpool in the third tier last term.
Ballard’s development should be greatly enhanced if he makes the switch to Millwall this summer because he will be working under a manager in Rowett who is very good at getting the best out of his defenders. Arsenal will be hoping that he can enjoy a strong campaign and then get himself into a position where he can challenge for their first team in a year.
This is a signing that should excite Millwall fans and it is one that I think they will look back on and realise it was a coup at the end of the campaign. The Lions will now hope that they can get this one over the line with their talks at an advanced stage and it does seem it will get sorted soon.
