Millwall have reportedly agreed a deal for Bournemouth winger Connor Mahoney, as Neil Harris looks to strengthen his squad this summer.

According to the Daily Mail, the Cherries have agreed to sell the 22-year-old to the Championship club.

Mahoney spent last season on loan at Birmingham City and made 32 appearances for the Blues, scoring twice and providing four assists.

He joined Bournemouth from Blackburn Rovers in 2017 but has found it difficult to break into the first team and has made just two appearances for the club.

Harris will be looking to inject some quality into his squad as they try and bounce back from a difficult season.

The Lions finished just one place and four points above the drop zone and will be determined not to get sucked into another relegation battle in the season ahead.

The South London club have seen nine players leave already this summer but no new players have yet arrived at the Den.

The Verdict

This move makes sense for everyone involved.

Harris needed to add attacking impetus this summer, as Millwall scored the fourth least goals in the league last season and top scorer has Lee Gregory joined Stoke City on a free transfer.

Mahoney will not be a straight replacement for Gregory but he should add some creativity going forward.

The winger has Championship experience, having played 54 times in the league for Birmingham, Blackburn, and Barnsley, which means he should be comfortable at this level.

He impressed at Birmingham last season and some Blues fans wanted the winger to join the club permanently, which indicates he is signing a player who will improve Harris' Millwall side.

It doesn't seem like he was going to cut it with the Cherries, having never made a Premier League appearance for them, and a permanent move to Millwall should allow him a fresh start in the second tier of English football.
