Millwall are reportedly close to reaching an agreement with its local authority that would see the club remain at its stadium The Den.
There had been concerns that the club would be forced to leave its South London home, however, according to a report by the London Evening Standard, the situation could be resolved as early as this week.
The report states that Lewisham council is finally working to remove a conditional land sale agreement over land around The Den that they have with a property developer called Renewal.
These latest developments have come about after months of productive talks between the football club, the mayor of Lewisham and Renewal.
The report states that the council is "very encouraged" by the discussions that are taking place between the three parties and is planning to make an announcement in due course.
Millwall will hope that the announcement brings positive news and ends a threat that has been hanging over the club since 2012.
The Verdict
This is very promising news for Millwall and it will no doubt come as a big relief to everyone associated with the football club, from the decision-makers down to the supporters.
While no agreement has been reached yet, news that the matter could be resolved this week after a seven-year battle with the council is very encouraging and should be considered a major step forward.
The article also states that Millwall are drafting their own plans to develop The Den and the land around it alongside Renewal, including an expansion of the stadium to bring it closer to Premier League requirements.
It is always nice to see a club planning for the future and news that Millwall are working on their own plans to enhance the stadium will no doubt please their supporters too.
