Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has stayed tight-lipped on the club's pursuit of a new goalkeeper after the latest twist in the Aaron Ramsdale saga.

The Gunners have been linked with the 23-year-old Sheffield United shot-stopper throughout the summer and are understood to have made two bids for him.

Fresh reports this morning indicated that the Arsenal's pursuit of Ramsdale was over as the two clubs' valuations of the player were too far apart.

In his pre-match press conference ahead of Friday's Premier League opener against Brentford, Arteta was pressed on the north London club's pursuit of a new keeper.

He told football.london: "I cannot tell you today I have no answers to that."

Arteta added: "It’s been a difficult window. Probably a lot of things will happen in the last week or so."

The Arsenal boss was also questioned on whether time was running out for his side to get their transfer business done.

"It is but things take time", said the Spanish coach. "There are all the times different things and different parties needed to get things done.

"For sure we are trying to do what we have. Important in that is to make sure that the squad is healthy and we have that stability within the squad which is certainly something that we missed last year up till December. So that is a support as well."

Despite the ongoing transfer saga, Ramsdale remains Slavisa Jokanovic's first choice number one and started their Championship opener against Birmingham City last weekend.

The Verdict

It seems Arteta is unwilling to shed any more light on Arsenal's pursuit of a new keeper, even after the latest twist in the Ramsdale saga.

He's admitted that time is running out but his comments do suggest he's not going to be rushed into a panic buy.

United supporters can't breathe a sigh of relief just yet but it does seem increasingly likely that the 23-year-old will remain at Bramall Lane beyond the end of the current window – though Arteta has hinted the Gunners may look to do business in the last few weeks of the window.

That is clearly a massive boost for Jokanovic and his hopes of leading the Blades to Premier League promotion this season.

Ramsdale was one of United's most impressive players last season and won't have to deal with top flight strikers this term.
