There is no busier region in the Football League right now than the Midlands, with every Championship team producing news left, right and centre.

Nottingham Forest have begun to look like the side we expected to see before the season started as Karanka's men finally start to click.

Frank Lampard's Derby's League Cup triumph over Manchester United will live long in the memory, whilst Steve Bruce desperately tries to get Aston Villa back on track in the West.

Garry Monk continues to plug away with his Birmingham City side and claimed his first win of the season at the weekend.

So here is a round up of all the goings-on in the Midlands...

Birmingham City picked up their first points of the season last weekend as they condemned Leeds United to their first defeat of the season, winning 2-1 at Elland Road.

It was a much-deserved victory for the Blues after playing well in previous matches but lacking a clinical edge. Che Adams saw to that this time, however, bagging both goals.

Adams heaped praise on his manager after the match as well, telling the Birmingham Mail that Monk "has been amazing" and that "everyone is together" at the club.

But Monk himself has challenged his players to be even better against Ipswich at the weekend.

The big news coming from Aston Villa recently is, of course, Jack Grealish signing a new five-year deal with the club.

It is news that Villa fans were understandably delighted with given their recent run of form...

The other big story regarding Villa came from The Sun who reported that the club were ready to do battle with Sheffield Wednesday for the signing of Chelsea defender Gary Cahill in January.

Elsewhere, Steve Bruce confirmed that summer signing Yannick Bolasie was closing in on his first start of the season and it could come against Bristol City at the weekend.

Over in the East Midlands and Nottingham Forest are hoping to continue their fine resurgence in form when Stoke City visit the City Ground on Saturday.

But they will be doing it without their Sports Director Luke Dowling who left the club to take up a similar role for West Brom.

The future of Diogo Goncalves has also been a topic of discussion with the Portuguese summer signing dropping well down the pecking order since the opening day of the season.

He was given a chance in midweek against Stoke City but only worsened his situation by getting sent off.

It's safe to say the Forest fans did not agree entirely.

The biggest news from the East Midlands undoubtedly came from Derby County, however.

Frank Lampard squared off against his former manager Jose Mourinho as the Rams took on Manchester United in the League Cup at Old Trafford.

A stunning free-kick from Liverpool loanee Harry Wilson and Jack Marriott's first for the club were enough for a 2-2 draw, with Derby going through on penalties.

Away from the upset, the club are apparently planning to tie down young fullback Jayden Bogle to a new long-term deal.

Centre-back Curtis Davies grew closer to a return as well, revealing some risky new boots that he claimed to be wearing back in training.
