Cardiff City are not thought to be interested in signing midfielder Younousse Sankhare from French side Bordeaux, Wales Online have reported.

It was recently claimed by TEAMtalk that The Bluebirds were confident of completing the signing of Sankhare before Thursday's 5pm transfer deadline, although it now appears that is not the case.

According to the latest reports, Neil Warnock's side are not interested in signing the midfielder, and as a result will not be moving for Sankhare, who was also linked with Nottingham Forest, Swansea and Sheffield United earlier in the summer transfer window.

Sankhare recently hit out at his current club over their treatment of him, claiming that he is not in Bordeaux's first-team plans going forward and that he will be looking for a new club before the window closes.

There have already been several changes in Cardiff's midfield personnel this summer. Will Vaulks has joined from Rotherham, while Aron Gunnarson has left the club and Harry Arter has now moved to Fulham following the expiration of his loan deal with the Welsh club.

The Verdict

This is a slightly surprising one.

Considering Cardiff's performance at Wigan on the opening day of the Championship season, you could have understood it if the club had been keen to strengthen their squad further before the close of the transfer window.

You feel Sankhare's top-flight experience and presence in the centre of the park would have made him a useful addition at the Cardiff City Stadium, and it certainly appears as though the player himself would have been open to a move.

It will be interesting to see if Cardiff do now decide to make a quick move back into the transfer market in the final few hours remaining until the window closes.
