Whilst most of the focus and heat will be on Garry Monk returning to Elland Road on Sunday, it will also be a notable occasion for Jonny Howson as Middlesbrough take on his boyhood club.

The midfielder spent 15 years with Leeds United, coming through the academy and admits he used to look out for their results even after leaving. However, he told Boro's official site that Sunday is about taking a win back to Teesside.

When it comes to game day it's about putting a professional head on. I've got a job to do for Middlesbrough Football Club and I'll be giving it my all to try and get three points for the team. When it comes to Sunday and that whistle goes I treat it like any other game.”

Howson has already returned to Elland Road as a former player, and even scored as Norwich won 2-0 back in 2015. Such is his affection for the club, the 29-year old even held his hands up in an apologetic way after netting.

Despite leaving for Norwich, Howson didn't push for a move and he is sure to get a positive reception upon his return to Yorkshire this Sunday.

The Verdict

These are fair comments by Howson, he clearly still follows Leeds but that won't change how he goes about his game as he is a top professional – as he displayed at Norwich.

He will give it everything he has to get three points for Boro and that's all the North East club's fans will care about.

It's a massive game for the two teams and Howson will need to deliver another big performance if Monk's men are to extend their winning run.
