Midfielder set to leave Preston to join relegation battlers

Preston North End midfielder Ben Pringle is set to leave the club to join League 1 strugglers Oldham Athletic on loan, according to HITC Sport.

The 28-year-old has not played at all under Alex Neil at Deepdale, being named on the bench twice in the league but not taking to the pitch on either occasion.

He will hope to kickstart his career again at Oldham, who sit just one point and one place above the League One relegation places under Richie Wellens.

Jack Byrne has left the club at the end of his loan spell, to return to Wigan Athetic, who sit top of the third tier and will be looking at Pringle to fill the gap.

The Verdict

Pringle was impressive at Rotherham but his career has nosedived since joining Fulham in 2015, where he made just 15 appearances.

He needs regular football to get back on track and rediscover his form. A relegation battle does not look like the best place for a classy playmaker like Pringle to shine but Wellens clearly feels he can get something out of the 28-year-old.
