Vurnon Anita looks set to return to Leeds United, after Dutch side Willem II opted against making the midfielder's loan move permanent.

The Dutchman made 31 appearances in all competitions during a season-long loan back to his home country, helping Willem II to a comfortable tenth place finish in the Eredivisie, just one point adrift of a place in the country's play-offs for a Europa League spot.

It appears, however, that Anita's time in Holland is set to come to an end after Dutch publication Brabants Dagblad reported that the top flight side have decided not to make the 30-year-old's loan move permanent.

Anita joined Leeds from Newcastle United on a three-year contract in the summer of 2017, and made 22 appearances in all competitions during his debut campaign at Elland Road before his loan move to The Netherlands for the duration of this season.

The verdict

Willem II may not have taken up the option on his contract, but you feel that Anita may not be back at Leeds for long.

The midfielder had played little more than a bit part role in the 2017/18 season for Leeds, and his presence hasn't exactly been missed on the pitch this season either.

Leeds will want to strengthen in the summer transfer window ahead of another push for the Premier League next season and will need both funds and space in the squad to do so.

Anita may be one they could look to move along in order to find those things.
