Pelly Ruddock Mpanzu has taken to social media to post a cryptic deadline day update after it was reported that Bristol City were showing late interest in the midfielder.

The 25-year-old, who currently plays for Luton Town, emerged as a late target for Lee Johnson, according to BBC Points West sports editor Alistair Durden.

The journalist provided the development via Twitter earlier on this afternoon:

With Bristol City's quest to sign Ethan Ampadu now looking all the more unlikely, Durden claimed that the club have made the 25-year-old an alternative option.

Coincidentally, the midfielder found time to post an enigmatic message on Twitter, which has got the Robins fans talking.

Mpanzu has been on Luton Town's books since 2013, when the Hatters competed in the Conference - the fifth tier of English football.

QUIZ: Can you wear the last 12 Bristol City men to wear the No. 9 shirt?

Luton have had a sensational rise through the divisions since then, and the 25-year-old has been a part of that journey, scoring in each division for the Hatters en route to the Championship.

He is primarily a box-to-box midfielder, but can also be deployed in front of the back four or further up the pitch if needed.

In total, Mpanzu has made 232 appearances for Luton Town, scoring 17 goals.

The Verdict

Mpanzu has a habit of posting these cryptic updates on social media. However, this time, there is more to it and the midfielder seems to have acknowledged Bristol City's interest.

In what has been a difficult season back in the Championship for Luton, Mpanzu has once again stepped up from a lower division and shown himself to be one of Luton's more consistent performers.

The 25-year-old has scored three goals in 27 league appearances this season for the Hatters, funnily enough finding the net against Bristol City in October when the two sides met at Kenilworth Road.
