One of the most ferocious derby games in English football will take centre stage in the Championship this weekend as Sheffield United travel across the city to Hillsborough.

The two sides haven't met since 2012, when it was a League One fixture, and after the positive starts both have enjoyed, this one is highly anticipated.

The Owls will be looking to protect a seven game unbeaten run, that has quietly brought them into the play-off picture.

Meanwhile, the Blades are occupying 6th position after a fantastic start to life back in England's second tier.

Wednesday's on-loan midfielder Jacob Butterfield has admitted he's relishing playing in front of the sell-out crowd. Speaking to the Sheffield Star, he said: “I'm really looking forward to it. It is ultimately only three points but it means everything to the fans.”

I know they haven't played each other in five years so everyone will be up for it. The atmosphere should be electric on the day.”

Carlos Carvalhal's men are unbeaten at home in the league so far and the Portuguese manager will be desperate for that record to be maintained on Sunday afternoon as he samples the Steel City derby for the first time.

The Verdict

Once Sheffield United won promotion this would've been the fixture on the minds of everyone in the city.

Both sets of players will be desperate to win and understand the importance of three points.

As well as bragging rights, the two Sheffield clubs are well positioned to have a good season and won't want that to be derailed on Sunday.
