Portsmouth midfielder Adam May, who is currently out on loan with Swindon Town, is close to being recalled by Kenny Jackett after an underwhelming loan spell in Wiltshire so far.

May joined Swindon on loan in the summer and has only made 11 appearances for Richie Wellens' side as the 21 year-old central midfielder struggles to break into the Swindon team.

The Portsmouth youth graduate has only been picked to start four times by Wellens, and has failed to make the matchday squad for the last four games consecutively.

On the possibility of recalling May in January, Jackett said: "There is a recall option, but we’ll see.

"It’s not a discussion we’ve had with Adam or Swindon yet.

"All I’ve said to Adam is that you have to train hard to get back into the team.

"When he gets his chance, he has to take it.

"For him, he has to persevere.

"We’ll assess it towards the end of December and see from there."

May has progressed through the youth academy at Portsmouth and has made just the 30 appearances for Pompey since making his debut back in the 2014-2015 season during a League Two game.

Since his debut for Portsmouth five years ago, May has appeared four times on loan for Gosport Borough, 29 times for Sutton United and 12 times while on loan at Aldershot Town last season.

Swindon Town currently sit fifth in League Two after a good start to their season, having picked up 27 points from 16 games this season.

The Verdict

May is at a pivotal point during his career, and he needs regular game-time to reach his full potential.

Jackett will want his midfielder to get game-time in the Football League while on loan at Swindon, however his options are becoming limited with May not even making the Swindon bench anymore.

The right option for the Pompey manager would be to recall May in January and look at his options elsewhere for regular football.
