Middlesbrough are a club who are renowned for their success at developing young players.

Part of the club's mantra is based around giving talented prospects a platform to thrive and that's been evident in recent years as the academy set-up continues to churn out a wealth of talent.

Some of those players thrive at the Riverside Stadium, while others go on to enjoy successful playing careers elsewhere, but either way, they're doing something right at the club.

Club debuts are a memorable occasion, but many players will also remember the first time that they found the back of the net.

We took to Transfermarkt to dig out Middlesbrough's top 10 youngest-ever goalscorers.

The Teesside born midfielder started his career with Middlesbrough and made his first team breakthrough in 1990.

Pollock netted his first goal for the club on May 1, 1993 in a 3-2 away victory over Sheffield Wednesday in an end-of-season Premier League clash.

He was 19 years 02 months and 15 days old when he found the net, making him Middlesbrough's 10th youngest ever goalscorer.

After leaving the club Pollock went on to play for Spanish side Osasuna before returning to England to play for the likes of Bolton Wanderers, Manchester City and Crystal Palace.

Since then he's built a career managing at non-league level with the likes of Spennymoor Town and Billingham Synthonia.

A player who really looked like he was set to become the next big prospect to emerge from the Middlesbrough academy.

Williams made his first team debut back in December 2009 at the age of just 16, making him the youngest player to feature for the club in over 100 years.

His first strike for the club came in August 21, 2012 when a long range effort against Burnley helped Middlesbrough to victory in the Championship.

Aged just 19 years 02 months 10 days, Williams comes in at number nine on our list.

Unfortunately injuries played their part and the 27-year-old can now be found playing for Hartlepool United.

The winger was one of the most talented players to emerge from Middlesbrough's academy.

Johnson joined the Teessiders at the age of 12 and made his senior debut for the club at the age of 17 in the UEFA Cup clash with Sporting CP in 2005.

His first goal for the club came the following year in a Premier League clash with Bolton Wanderers - a game that Middlesbrough drew 1-1.

Johnson was 18 years 09 months 19 days when he found the net, putting him at number eight in the list.

He went on to play for Manchester City and Sunderland before off-field crimes put an end to his playing career.

The defender was one of many talented youngsters to emerge from Middlesbrough's academy set-up during the noughties.

Hines suffered some troublesome injuries during his youth days but made his first team debut on Jan 16, 2007 in an FA Cup clash against Hull City.

It was actually that game that saw the centre-back net his first goal for the club at the age of 18 years 07 months 18 days.

Hines endured a frustrating time with Middlesbrough due to injury but found a new challenge in 2015 when he left for Orlando City in the MLS.

Now retired, Hines is working as a coach for Orlando Pride.

The only one of our top 10 who is still playing for the club.

Tavernier joined Middlesbrough's academy at the age of 14 after leaving Newcastle United and made a quick impact after bursting onto the scene at the age of 17.

His debut came in an EFL Cup clash with with Scunthorpe United in August 2017 and the midfielder didn't have to wait too much longer to find the net for the first time.

That goal came on Oct 24, 2017 in an EFL Cup clash with Bournemouth - a game that Middlesbrough lost 3-1 with Tavernier aged 18 years 07 months 02 days.

Of course Tavernier has gone from strength to strength since then with the 21-year-old becoming a first team regular during the last few years.

The midfielder is arguably one of the most talented players to emerge from Middlesbrough's academy.

Morrison was a key part of the FA Youth Cup victory in 2004 and made his debut that year in the FA Cup third round clash with Notts County in January that year.

His first goal for the club was a memorable one as Morrison netted the club's first ever away goal in Europe during the UEFA Cup first round clash with Banik Ostrava in September 2004.

Morrison was just 18 years 04 months 05 days of age and went on to play a massive role in the club's success during those years under Steve McClaren.

He went on to spend the rest of his career with West Brom and is now a first team coach with the Baggies.

Another player who feels like he's been around for years and years.

Reach made his debut for Middlesbrough in May 2011 against Doncaster Rovers in the Championship - a game that also saw him find the back of the net on his debut.

He was 18 years 03 months 04 days when he found the net - his first of many during his career.

Reach stayed with Middlesbrough until 2016 when he left for Sheffield Wednesday with first team opportunities somewhat limited at the Riverside Stadium.

However with the Owls now battling relegation from the second tier it'll be interesting to see if he will move on again this summer.

Middlesbrough's very own boy wonder and surely the most successful academy graduate in recent years.

Downing was a prodigious talent after emerging from the club's academy and really found his feet during a loan spell with Sunderland.

His first team debut came in April 2002, with his first goal coming later that year in a League Cup clash with Brentford - a game that the club won 4-1.

Downing was 18 years 02 months 09 days when he netted that day and went on to score plenty more for the Teessiders during two spells with the club.

Given that he played for Aston Villa, Liverpool and West Ham along with representing England, there's no doubt that he's among the best academy products to emerge in decades.

A player who was renowned for scoring goals as a youngster but emerged as more of a tough-tackling midfielder as he developed.

Cattermole was likened to Roy Keane when he burst onto Middlesbrough's first team scene and established himself as a regular under Steve McClaren.

His debut came in a Tyne-Tees derby against Newcastle United in January 2006, with his debut goal coming just three months later as he netted the crucial goal in a 1-0 away win over Manchester City.

He was 18 years 11 days when he scored that goal in the Premier League.

Cattermole enjoyed a successful career from then and played plenty of times for Middlesbrough, Wigan Athletic and Sunderland before a spell in Holland.

Middlesbrough youngest-ever goalscorer is a bit more of a blast from the past.

Proctor made his debut for the club at just 17 years of age and netted his first goal before his 18th birthday.

The midfielder was 17 years 10 months 16 days when he scored in the First Division clash with Chelsea on Dec 16, 1978 - the first of many for the club.

Proctor went on to play for the likes of Nottingham Forest, Sunderland and Sheffield Wednesday before coming back to Teesside.

He's also a familiar face at the Riverside Stadium having worked as a coach in recent years.
