Winning promotion with Middlesbrough is Cyrus Christie's ambition for next season, Sky Sports News are reporting.

Cyrus Christie is one of a number of new arrivals at Middlesbrough this summer and he is targeting an immediate return to the Premier League.

Garry Monk has already begun his squad revamp, snapping up Jonny Howson (Norwich City), Martin Braithwaite (Toulouse), Britt Assombalonga (Nottingham Forest) and Darren Randolph (West Ham United) alongside Cyrus Christie.

As well as this, Middlesbrough are on the verge of signing West Ham striker Ashley Fletcher.

After leaving Derby County, where he experienced near-misses on promotion during his three year stay at Pride Park, Cyrus Christie is hoping to go one better with Boro.

Sharing his targets for the new season, Christie revealed:

"I think everyone knows the ambition, we want to get promoted.

"I don't think it really matters how we do it but obviously it's always better to go up as one of the top two.

"But the aim is to get back to the Premier League and I think everyone that's coming in, and the boys here, are vying to get this club back to the Premier League."

The Verdict

Middlesbrough are likely to be the favourites for the Championship title and rightly so given their summer business so far.

Their summer signings have addressed a number of problem positions and they have strength in depth in a number of positions.

So, Cyrus Christie revealing that promotion is the ultimate ambition should not come as a surprise at all.
