Middlesbrough remain in the market for a new goalkeeper having lost Brad Guzan and Victor Valdes this summer, and boss Garry Monk will scour the continent for his new number one.

Dimitrios Konstantopoulos and Connor Ripley looked set to battle for the starting spot, but Monk will surely look to add another option to his squad, with the former reaching the end of his career, and the latter only just starting.

Middlesbrough had been linked with Man Utd keeper Sam Johnstone, but a deal to bring the youngster to Teesside is looking increasingly unlikely.

Monk may turn his attentions elsewhere, and should consider a deal for Greek free agent Kostas Lamprou, who is without a club following his release by Dutch side Willem II earlier in the summer.

The shot stopper was one of the most consistent players in the Eredivisie last year, and a series of fine performances played a huge role in maintaining Willem’s top flight status.

Lamprou is on the verge of an international call up following his heroics in the Dutch top flight, and a move to the Championship with Boro would surely help the 25-year-old realise his dream.

Securing the services of one of the best shot stoppers in the Dutch top flight on a free transfer would represent a real coup for Monk, and fans can be excited about the prospect of such a top talent representing their club next year if Monk can agree a deal.
