Middlesbrough will receive almost £10m from 26-year-old’s sale

According to a report in The Sun, Middlesbrough will receive almost £10m from Gaston Ramirez’s departure this summer.
Ramirez looks set to end a mixed spell at the Riverside Stadium in the coming days, as he completes a £9.85m move to Serie A outfit, Sampdoria.
The forward was pictured at Gatwick airport yesterday, reportedly flying out of England to complete his move away from Middlesbrough.
Boro’s supports handed Ramirez a hostile reception in the club’s final pre-season friendly, with his future continually discussed during his time in the North East.
However, despite Ramirez’s obvious ability, the 26-year-old does not feature in Garry Monk’s reshape at the Riverside, with the club’s new manager happy to cash-in on the Uruguayan.
The hefty transfer-fee received from Ramirez’s departure will help cushion the spending spree Boro have been on this summer, with Monk wasting no time in bolstering his squad.
Britt Assombalonga has been signed for a club-record £15m, whilst Martin Braithwaite and Ashley Fletcher are also multi-million-pound additions to Boro’s strikeforce.
Monk is reportedly keen to add another attack-minded player to his squad in the coming weeks, with Liverpool’s Ryan Kent a loan target for the Teessiders.
Boro begin the 2017/18 campaign on Saturday with a trip to Wolverhampton Wanderers, another of the Championship’s big spenders.
The Verdict
Whilst Gaston Ramirez has shown flashes of brilliance during his time at the Riverside Stadium, he has ultimately underperformed in the North East.
The reported transfer-fee Boro will receive for Ramirez is good for the club, who themselves have spent big this summer bolstering their own squad.
However, Ramirez is a quality player, that offers something different to what Boro currently have and will need to be replaced before the end of the summer.
