Middlesbrough, West Brom and QPR battle to sign 28-year-old striker

Maccabi Tel Aviv striker Vidar Orn Kjartansson is attracting attention from a trio of Championship clubs, according to The Yorkshire Post.

Middlesbrough, Queens Park Rangers and West Bromwich Albion are all in the hunt to sign Kjartansson this summer.

Maccabi Tel Aviv rate the 28-year-old at £3.5m.

QPR are looking for a new striker with their current options of Conor Washington, Matt Smith and Idrissa Sylla all failing to set the world alight last season.

The Hoops’ hunt for a new striker has thus far seen them linked with Derby County’s Chris Martin and West Ham United outcast Jordan Hugill.

Middlesbrough are also searching for a new striker with Britt Assombalonga potentially leaving following a training ground row with Tony Pulis.

Meanwhile, West Brom are preparing for the possibility that Salomon Rondon and Jay Rodriguez could leave.

Kjartansson has scored 42 goals in two seasons with Israeli side Maccabi Tel Aviv and could now head to England.

The Iceland international has also played in Iceland, Norway, China and Sweden during his career.

The Verdict

At both Malmo and Maccabi Tel Aviv, Kjartansson has scored an impressive amount of goals.

Whether he could replicate that in England remains to be seen and he would be a risk.

At £3.5m, he is not worth a punt for cash-strapped QPR but could be worth a gamble for the Baggies or Boro.
