Sky Bet Championship side Middlesbrough are interested in signing in Brentford stars Neal Maupay and Ollie Watkins, according to reports from the Northern Echo.

The duo have undoubtedly been the Bees' standout performers this year, in a season that has turned bitterly disappointing since the departure of Dean Smith to Aston Villa in October.

Watkins, who according to reports from Sky Sports is valued by the Bees at a price of around £20million, has scored eight goals and produced three assists in all competitions for Thomas Frank's men this term from out wide.

Maupay, meanwhile, is one of the leading goalscorers in the division, having scored 16 league goals and produced six assists this term, with reports claiming that the Bees are demanding £10million for the French forward.

But reports also claim that despite the duo's hefty price tags, Boro remain interested in landing the pair with just days of the window left, with Tony Pulis keen to bolster his attack ahead of a push for promotion this term.

Despite sitting in the play-off places, only four teams in the Championship have scored less goals than Pulis’ men this season, hitting the net just 31 times in 28 league outings, with the Welshman saying on more than one occasion that they need more pace and power in attack.

The North East club currently sit 5th in the league standings.

The Verdict

These two players would be tremendous signings, but I can't see it happening.

I can't see Boro forking out at least £25million this late in the window, it would be a huge statement of intent if so.

They definitely need a boost in their attack, but this deal seems quite ambitious to me.
