Middlesbrough are hoping to sign Everton midfielder Mo Besic and West Bromwich Albion winger Matty Phillips this summer, according to a report by TEAMtalk.

Boro are ready to push ahead with these two deals as they look to strengthen their squad ahead of the new campaign.

Besic spent the second half of last season on loan at The Riverside Stadium, where he turned in a string of very impressive displays in central midfield.

The Bosnia and Herzegovina international is surplus to requirements at Everton so both parties are hopeful that a deal can be struck.

Everton signed the 25-year-old back in 2014 and he has since played 56 games for the Toffees.

Phillips is another target for Tony Pulis, who worked with the Scotland international during their time together at West Brom.

The 27-year-old was part of the Baggies squad that was relegated last term but Pulis is hoping to bring him to Boro to strengthen their options out wide, especially with Adama Traore attracting Premier League attention.

Phillips started his career at Wycombe Wanderers and has since played for Blackpool, QPR and West Brom in the top two divisions.

The Verdict

Besic needs to be a top priority for Middlesbrough this summer because he was a crucially important cog in their midfield last season.

Phillips would also add some much-needed creativity to the wide regions, especially if Traore goes.

Adding these two players would boost Boro's promotion credentials.
