Middlesbrough trio lay down marker as Tony Pulis watches

Middlesbrough made it three wins from four yesterday afternoon, as the Teessiders ran out 2-0 winners over struggling Bolton Wanderers.

Manager Garry Monk was sacked despite the club’s decent little run of form, with new boss Tony Pulis watching from the stands as Boro moved to within three points off the playoffs.

The Welshman will have been delighted with what he saw from his new side, with a number of players stepping up to impress their new manager.

Boro have a huge squad, with a plethora of top-class players all fighting for a place in the starting XI at The Riverside Stadium.

Yesterday was the first chance to impress former Stoke City and West Bromwich Albion boss Pulis, and three players particularly rose to the challenge.

Cyrus Christie, Martin Braithwaite and Britt Assombalonga were all selected in WhoScored.com’s team of the week, following impressive displays against the Trotters.

The Verdict

Monk chopped and changed his starting lineup all season, and the fact he had failed to settle upon his strongest XI this far into the campaign played a huge role in the loss of his job.

Pulis is a no-nonsense manager who will pick out his best side as soon as possible, and this trio certainly staked a claim to be included in the manager’s plans.

Already regulars in the side, the players have now laid down a marker to not only Pulis, but to their Boro colleagues, who must now seek to emulate their success if they are to force their way into the plans of the new manager.

Boro fans, is Pulis the right man for the job? Have your say below…
