Middlesbrough are now looking to turn their attention to improving Chris Wilder’s side this summer.

According to Yorkshire Live, Boro are turning their focus to incomings following the conclusion of the Djed Spence transfer saga.

It is understood that the club have received £12.5 million for the deal, with a further sum set to be received in add-ons that could take the deal to £19 million.

It was a protracted transfer negotiation between the Championship club and Tottenham Hotspur, but Spence is now the sixth addition to the North London side this summer.

But now that everything has been wrapped up, the 54-year old wants the club to turn its attention to improving the team’s attack.

Three strikers are being sought this summer, as Wilder aims to compete for promotion to the Premier League.

The money received as part of the Spence deal is set to finance these acquisitions.

A move for Brentford’s Marcus Forss has been made, with further reports suggesting the club is interested in making moves for the likes of Southampton’s Adam Armstrong and Coventry City’s Viktor Gyokeres.

However, Dwight Gayle will not be playing for the Riverside club this season due to the financial demands involved in striking a deal for the forward.

The Verdict

This is absolutely an area of the team that needs addressing going into the new season.

The loss of Andraz Sporar, Folarin Balogun and Aaron Connolly from the squad this summer has left the club with a lack of strong numbers in attack.

Josh Coburn and Duncan Watmore are the two recognised forwards who are part of Wilder’s plans for next season.

Adding at least two more should be an absolute must, while a third arrival up top could signal the possible exit of either Coburn or Watmore.
